Japanese-Style Hot Chocolate With Matcha
Matcha is one of the oldest forms of tea in Japan which is made by finely grinding green tea leaves. During the growing process, shading matcha leaves increases chlorophyll and amino acids which creates the unique matcha flavor. It has rich vegetal taste with a bit tangy but sweet aftertaste.
The earthy bitterness of matcha especially enhances flavors of Japanese snacks, balancing out the sweetness and adding lingering matcha taste at the end. That’s why there are so many options of matcha flavored Japanese snacks. Among those snacks, there are definitely a lot of matcha and chocolate combinations like Matcha Kit Kats, Matcha Chocolate Stick Cake and Chocolate Azuki Beans: Uji Matcha. So we infused matcha into our hot chocolate!
