It’s crazy how time flies, the much anticipated summer is almost here (while the South hemisphere enters winter) 🥶

This last month was full of experiences! We had the chance to discover bokksu, a monthly Japanese snack box that takes you on journey throughout each corner of the Asian country. What a better way to embrace Spring and the Hokaido Cherry Blossoms’ bloom than doing a picnic! 🌸🧺🇯🇵

I got [gifted] this box from bokksu and oh my word was I not expecting how many snacks it came with! There is a massive variety and a mix of typical to more artisan styled snacks. So far I have loved the stick potato snacks, pear fromage biscuits, and the apple caramel sable (its like a yummy flat cake). Honestly this box was amazingly good value, I highly recommended it! ❤️

I initially ordered Bokksu right as COVID hit as a way to keep trying snacks that I could not go out to buy. I am sheltering in place with family, so it also makes a great bonding activity to go through these boxes and sample together. I got to try my first box today, which was the third box shipped, and it was the Tangy Citrus June '20 box. So impressed by the variety! Savory and sweet options with chips, cookies, cakes...mochi, monaka, and meringue...as well as jellies, seaweed snacks, and anpan. The best part was it came with refreshing ginger yuzu herbal tea packets that tasted like a light lemonade, perfect on a hot summer day. I can’t wait for the rest of the boxes! (In fact, my family loved the snacks so much, they convinced me to hop onto the Bokksu Market and order >$200 in other snacks to tide us over until the next box finally arrives!)

Couldn’t go back to Japan this year (sigh), but thanks to bokksu , I’ll get to try all the Sakura treats I never did 🌸 This is my first time trying this monthly subscription box and if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know how perfect this is for me, and that I’ll gladly be giving these folks all my money (it’s not even expensive though, DM me for prices or visit their page x).
What I especially love is that they also send a “cultural booklet” detailing on and explaining each snack and it’s origins! The best way to understand a culture is through its food, and these guys are literally sending a boxful of Japan to your doorstep. I’m so completely in love, stay tuned for more detailed reviews on each snack.

This is my first time ordering bokksu although I have ordered other lootboxes that contain japanese treats before. I ended up ordering bokksu because it had a lot of savory treats compared to others I found and the sweets also sounded like I'd like to taste each one. The box was very cute and even though it looked a bit small at first there was a lot of treats inside. The booklet that came with the box had really good information about what everything was in the box and then some extra as well. I ate most of what was in the box in a few days because everything looked so delicious and interesting and now have been trying to make the rest last a bit longer so it doesn't feel like I have to wait for the next box as long. I have really been enjoying my bokksu.

I loved the packaging and the items too. All of them were chosen carefully and were a delight to the taste buds. Now for the best, hands down has to be Funwari Meijin Mochi Puffs: Kinako. They were heavenly, the moment they melt in your mouth they leave you wanting for more.

Each box that comes to us gives us incredible pleasure in discovering new flavors. Everything we've tried so far, every snack, was surprising and delightful.
