Matcha Milk Mochi Zenzai

This delicious warm mochi dessert combines matcha, milk and white bean paste to give a fantastic twist to traditional zenzai flavor. Zenzai, also known as shiruko is a traditional Japanese dessert soup of mochi rice cakes and red bean paste. White bean paste has a similar flavor and lighter color that makes this matcha milk version look stunning!

Directions:

Microwave:

  1. Open the packets which contain white bean paste and mochi.
  2. Place them in a microwaveable container.
  3. Make sure the mochi is fully covered by white bean paste.
  4. Microwave for 2 minutes (500W) until the mochi becomes puffy.
  5. Last step: Enjoy!

Stovetop + toaster:

  1. Put water in a pot and boil the water.
  2. Place the white bean packets directly in boiling water (do not open the packet).
  3. Heat the packet for about 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Open the mochi packet and cook the mochi in the toaster until they become puffy. Be Careful not to burn it! Combine the warm bean paste and mochi before serving.
  5. Last step: Enjoy!
