Our favorite pink flower has begun to dot Japan’s landscapes. That’s right – sakura, or cherry blossom season has begun. Sakura is only in full bloom for a week, and when the blossoms come out, so do the people. In Japan, it’s customary to view the cherry blossoms in an event known as hanami. One of the best places for hanami is in Kyoto, Japan’s former capital. You can take in Kyoto’s historical beauty by viewing cherry blossoms in parks, castles, temples, and shrines.
