This cookie is called yakkoi sabure, which means "chewy sable" in Japanese. Sable is originally a French butter cookie that is usually crisp and has a slight snap when it breaks. This version includes the lovely addition of caramel apple butter made using apples from Aomori, which is home to the best apples in Japan! Soft and sweet without being overpowering, it's even more delicious when paired with a warm cup of tea.
